Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms.
EMDR therapy focuses on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing events, allowing the brain to resume its natural healing process.
Our brains have a natural way to recover from traumatic memories and events. This process involves communication between parts of the brain that are responsible for memory storage, controlling behavior/emotions and processing fear, anger, and anxiety.
When we experience distress from an upsetting life event, these memories can become “frozen in time,” creating overwhelming feelings of being back in the moment. EMDR therapy helps the brain process these memories, and allows normal healing to resume. The experience is still remembered, but the fight, flight, or freeze response from the original event is resolved.

EMDR is a recommended treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it can also be used to treat anxiety, depression, stress, phobias, sleep problems, and more.
